What is PACVD Coating Technology?
PACVD coating is the abbreviation of Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition.
PECVD Coating Technology
The term PECVD coating is also used; E stands for Enhanced. Whereas in a PVD coating process the materials are evaporated from a solid form, in PACVD coating it results from a gas phase. A gas, such as HMDSO (hexamethyl-disiloxane) can be cracked at a temperature of approximately 200ºC when a plasma is used. A non-reactive gas, such as argon is used to carry the ions to the product and grow a micro-thin layer of PACVD coating on it.
DLC coating
An example of a PACVD coating is DLC coating (Diamond Like Carbon). It is used in tribological coatings, e.g. as an engine-coating for automotive components to make the component wear resistant and achieve friction reduction.
