DLC Coatings (Diamond Like Carbon Coatings)
DLC coatings are often applied in automotive engines to achieve friction reduction on engine components (tribology). The black colour of the DLC coating makes it popular as a decorative coating on e.g. watches. In tool applications DLC coatings are advantageous because of their low coefficient of friction and non-sticking properties. DLC coatings are superior for the machining of cast and wrought aluminium and coating of plastic injection moulds.
