Hauzer Techno Coating

PVD topcoat & basecoat system for decorative finishing

In October, at the exibition Eurofinish in Belgium, Dr. Ivan Kolev held a presentation about the topcoat & basecoat system Hauzer developed for decorative finishing.

Dr. Ivan Kolev, Senior Process Engineer at Hauzer Techno Coating, held a presentation about the topcoat & basecoat system Hauzer developed for decorative finishing. The exhibition Eurofinish in Gent, Belgium chose this subject for her Innovation Route, so many professionals could become acquainted with this technology.

One of the suitable basecoats in the systems is DLC (Diamond Like Carbon, patent pending). This basecoat for decorative finishing is applicable on metal substrates as well as on plastics. Together with a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) topcoat, this surface finish combines hardness, scratch-resistance, good adhesion and a vivid colour.

The new DLC basecoat has the following advantages:

  •  Hardness can be tuned over a wide range
  • DLC can be made by PACVD (Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition) technology, which is low cost, because no expensive target material is needed
  • The thick coating with a very smooth surface has excellent features for decorative applications
  • The complete surface finish (basecoat & topcoat) can be achieved in one process operation.
  • PACVD and PVD are both evironmentally friendly prosesses, possible to apply as hibrid technology.

So far decorative PVD coatings are widely used on door hardware, bathroom accessories, mobile phone and camera cases or automotive interior parts. This development makes new applications on metal and plastic substrates not only possible, but also accessible with regard to cost-effectiveness.
